Safeback SBX Launching at ISPO Munich 2022

November 21, 2022 | Bergen, Norway

Safeback will be showing at ISPO Munich 2022, displaying the ISPO Award-winning SBX avalanche survival system and our partners’ backpacks at our booth: B3-433.

For the first time ever, Safeback SBX will be physically on display for system demos at ISPO 2022. At our stand, B3-433, visitors will be able to pick up and test the SBX system on its own, see the details of our integration into partner backpacks, and try on both avalanche packs, fully loaded with all the equipment that you might have on a day trip.

Safeback SBX has received this year’s ISPO Award and will be receiving our prize at the winner’s ceremony on Tuesday, November 29th, 2022. The SBX is the world’s first active air supply for avalanche and tree well burial. When activated, the system provides fresh air to snow burial victims under the snow, extending their potential survival window from 15 to over 90 minutes.

Bergans of Norway has developed a highly flexible, adjustable-volume ski-mountaineering backpack, which can be reconfigured and customized to meet the needs of skiers and mountaineers. This backpack integrates Safeback SBX into the top lid of the backpack in a modular system that can be removed when your adventure doesn’t involve avalanche exposure, making the backpack a useful companion year-round. This backpack has also won the ISPO Award 2022 and is nominated for the Scandinavian Outdoor Award, to be announced on Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, at the Scandinavian Outdoor Bar in hall A2.

Db Equipment has designed the world’s first backcountry vest integrating Safeback SBX. This user-friendly and well-balanced riding vest is built to meet the needs of a wide range of skiers and snowboarders - from resort riders looking for an added layer of protection against tree wells on the deepest days, to backcountry riders taking day trips in avalanche terrain. The vest is equipped with all the functional details that one could expect from any Db product - including a complete integration of the Safeback SBX avalanche survival system.

The Safeback team will be at our stand in Munich, ready to discuss all of these products with visitors.

About Safeback

Safeback was founded in 2016 by three engineers and backcountry enthusiasts in Western Norway - Tor Berge, André Mjølhus, and Sigmund Andreassen. After analyzing the avalanche safety equipment available today, they realized that there was a lack of innovation and investment in solutions for the avalanche victim under the snow. They then set out to create user-focused products that reliably get backcountry travelers home safe.

Safeback’s research and development have targeted the problem of asphyxia under the snow. Their initial product, Safeback SBX, is a breathing assistance system that actively provides clean air to the victim’s air pocket in the snow, extending the survival window for up to 90 minutes.
